Attempt to help friend ends in tragedy Man killed when teen driving him home crashes car
Tuesday, December 19, 2006
BY PAULA SAHA Star-Ledger Staff

A 2004 graduate of Jefferson High School died after a crash Sunday evening when his car struck a tree in West Milford, authorities and the victim's family said yesterday.

Jonathan Klug, 20, died as officers and other emergency services personnel worked to free him from the wreckage, police said. The boy driving the car and another passenger, both 16 and from the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson, were taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening, police said. Klug's parents, Jean and Robert Klug of Oak Ridge, said their son was with his best friends when he died. They were bringing Jonathan, who was suffering from a migraine headache that blurred his vision, home to his parents when a deer jumped in front of the car, the Klugs said.

The West Milford police responded to the scene on Bonter Road shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement released yesterday. They declined to comment further, except to say the accident is under investigation.

Jonathan Klug had most recently worked with a local alarm contractor in Oak Ridge, learning to be a technician. His hope, his mother said, was to make money to go back to school and become a counselor for troubled teens.

"Everybody always called Jonathan for help," Jean Klug said. "He was always there for everybody, his phone was always ringing off the hook. ... That was my baby."

The Klugs said Jonathan met the other two boys in the car through mutual friends and his sister Katherine, a 17-year-old junior at Jefferson High School. They were not sure which of the boys was driving Jonathan's car, and police declined to release the boys' names yesterday.

Under New Jersey law, a 16-year-old may drive with a special learner's permit but he or she must be accompanied by a licensed New Jersey driver who is 21 or older who has been licensed for at least three years, said Mike Horan, a spokesman for the state Motor Vehicle Commission.

A 16-year-old with a special learner's permit may also only have passengers from his or her household in the car, plus one additional person, Horan said.

My Dad  Rocks !

My Dad is a Survivor

My dad is a survivor too...
Which is no surprise to me.
He's always been like a lighthouse
That helps you cross a stormy sea.

But, I walk with my dad each day
To lift him when he's down.
I wipe the tears he hides from others.
He cries when no one's around.

I watch him sit up late at night,
With my picture in his hand.
He cries as he tries to grieve alone,
And wishes he could understand.

My dad is like a tower of strength.
He's the greatest of them all~!
But there's times when he needs to cry...
Please be there when he falls.

Hold his hand or pat his shoulder...
And tell him it's okay.
Be his strength when he's sad,
Help him mourn in his own way.

Now, as I watch over my precious dad
From the Heaven's up above...
I'm so proud that he's a survivor...
And, I can still feel his love~!

My Mom is a Survivor

My Mom is a survivor,
or so I've heard it said.
But I can hear her crying at night
when all others are in bed.

I watch her lay awake at night
and go to hold her hand.
She doesn't know I'm with her
to help her understand.

But like the sands on the beach
that never wash away . . .
I watch over my surviving mom,
who thinks of me each day.

She wears a smile for others . . .
a smile of disguise!
But through Heaven's door I see
tears flowing from her eyes.

My mom tries to cope with death
to keep my memory alive.
But anyone who knows her knows
it is her way to survive.

As I watch over my surviving mom
through Heaven's open door . . .
I try to tell her that angels
protect me forevermore.

I know that doesn't help her . . .
or ease the burden she bears.
So if you get a chance, go visit her . . .
and show her that you care.

For no matter what she says . . .
no matter what she feels.
My surviving mom has a broken heart
that time won't ever heal

To my dearest family some things I'd like to say
But first of all to let you know that I arrived today,
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I shall dwell with God above
Here, there's no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and He said "I welcome you,
It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone,
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you are part of my plan
There's so much that we have to do to help our mortal man."
God gave me a fist of things that he wished for me to do
And foremost on the list was to watch and care for you
And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight
God and I are closest to you . . in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
1 wish that I could tell you all that God has planned
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand
But one thing is for certain though my life on earth is o'er
I'm closer to you now than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind
And when it's time for you to go . . from that body to be free
Remember you're not going . . you're just coming here to me.
